Siem Reap : Luxury vs Low Cost

If you can’t decide whether to stay luxury or low cost when you visit Siem Reap here’s a little help.

Luxury

There are plenty of luxurious hotels in and around Siem Reap, you’d be hard pushed not to find everything you’re looking for.

For us, luxury came in the form of Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor Hotel. A beautiful one-off colonial style building set in lush green overgrowth. The lobby leads you in past a dining hall that stretches out over a lily pad pools.

The star of the show is the highly anticipated, deeply inviting swimming pool. Complete with fountains and stone statues, the contrast of green foliage against the vibrant orange sun loungers makes it hard to resist a dip.

The elegant dark wood shutters add a hint of privacy as you climb the stairs to you room. Many of the rooms and suites lead out onto views of the pool.

The rooms are a mix of old and new, bamboo rugs and silk fabrics bring nature and luxury into one. Sliding door partitions in the room allow the walk-in shower and deep oval bath to become part of the living space in a way that only makes you feel more indulged.

Low Cost

Our stay at Lub d Siem Reap Hostel was quite the unexpected. The hostel is unlike any hostel you may have found yourselves at before.

OK, the principals may be the same but the space is modern, quirky, inviting, instagram-able. The hostel is equipped with mixed dorms, all female dorms, twin and double rooms. We stayed in a double, a very clean, private bathroom double with enough space and amenities.

With a huge central pool and swim up bar, I think we can safely say that this is no ordinary hostel. Ages ranging from late teens to mid 40’s. It’s a perfect daily hangout with local food for super affordable prices, or a great place to base yourself if you want to meet new people and get to see a super fun side of Siem Reap.

The hostel is 5 minutes from the notorious ‘Pub Street’ and across the street to the night market where anything from scorpion to frog is on offer!
