5 tips for traveling with a toddler long haul

Stroller

This is something we are always grateful we have. Being able to take your stroller on to the plane as hand luggage means you have the option to keep your stroller with you up until you board. But what is possibly even better is the fact you have the stroller on hand immediately after you depart the plane. Great if your child is asleep or if you have a long walk to the passport control/baggage collection.

SNACKS!

You can never have too many. Depending on the time of the flight we usually give Mila breakfast/lunch or dinner before boarding but they’re never too full for snacks and it’s a great way to buy yourself 10 minutes peace 😅

Toys

We bring a small backpack (a bag Mila can carry) filled with toys for the journey. Small dollies, drawing (mess-free colouring packs are great!), teddies etc we also tend to buy 1 or 2 new toys. Just small, inexpensive toys but in our experience these spark her interest and keep her entertained for longer just because they’re new. 👍🏼

Downloaded shows/films

Either on your phone or if they have a tablet / iPad on there. They’re a great way to keep them entertained and still for longer spurts. We make sure we have a few of her favourites and few new ones downloaded.

Fly during nap or sleep time

Of course this isn’t always possible but we do try to do this because it makes a huge difference. We’ve had many flights through the night where Mila has slept the entire flight and let me tell you there’s no better feeling 🙏🏼🙌🏻 if you have time to wait in the airports our advice is to tire them out as much as possible. Find an area they can run around, much easier in the airport than on the plane.
