Plan the Ultimate Trip to New York - Where to Stay, What to See and Where to Take Kids

We ventured across to the Big Apple just before Christmas and had the most fabulous trip with Mila. Both myself and River have both been to New York before but never together and never with Mila in tow. It was really fun to plan and a real fairytale to live out. Its wonderful at anytime of year but if you can plan to go in December, do.

We stayed in 3 different areas of New York; Midtown Manhattan (Most Popular) Soho (Most Chic) and Brooklyn (Most makes you want to move there!)

Midtown Manhattan

If you’re only in New York for a few days and want to make the most of the sights this is the best place to stay. Close by is :

  • Walk around Central Park

  • See the Iconic Empire State

  • Climb to the Top of the Rockefeller

  • Go shopping on 5th Ave

  • A must! Times Square

  • Be mesmerised at Summit One Vanderbilt

  • See New York from above at Edge NYC

  • Visit FAO Schwarz Toy Store

  • Eat and skate at Bryant Park

  • Grab coffee a Sip & Co

  • Eat at The Burger Joint

Hotel Recommendations :

  • The Peninsula

  • Thompson Central Park

SoHo

The ‘cooler’ hang out in NYC. Soho, Chelsea, West Village all these areas have a certain charm that’s detached from the constant hustle and bustle of the tourist-filled streets of Midtown.

Things to do :

  • Eat at Chelsea Market

  • Walk the highline

  • Walk along the Hudson River

  • Visit the Icecream Museum

  • Walk along Bleeker Street

  • Wander the streets of SoHo

  • Grab breakfast at 12 Chairs Cafe

  • Live like a New Yorker

Brooklyn

You haven’t really seen New York if you don’t cross Brooklyn Bridge and explore all this side of town has to offer. Beginning with the stunning bridge itself! You’ll arrive directly into Dumbo, one of our favourite neighbourhoods.

Things to do:

  • Walk Brooklyn Bridge

  • Have a drink at 1 Hotel’s Harriets Rooftop & Lounge bar

  • Visit Washington Street for the famous view of Manhattan Bridge

  • Grab a coffee and take in the view at Arabica

  • Eat at Time Out Market

  • Grab dinner at the renowned (& hard to get in to) Angela’s Pizza Place.

  • Take a walk and see the stunning Brownstone houses

  • Visit the parks & playgrounds

  • Take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty

  • Take the Ferry to Williamsburg

  • Eat at Butchers Daughter
